June Meeting – Guapa by Saleem Haddad

For June’s meeting we are reading “Guapa” by Saleem Haddad and I’m delighted to be able to confirm that the author will be coming to Cheltenham to attend our group.

He’ll read part of the book and then answer questions and join in the discussion. We will be paying for his train ticket from London hence we are requesting a donation via the meetup website. This is our first visit from an author so I do hope you will come along and support. New members are very welcome! Start at 6.30pm prompt, but come earlier for a tea/coffee/beer/cake/food if you like.

“Set over the course of 24 hours, Guapa follows Rasa, a gay man living in an unnamed Arab country trying to carve out a life for himself in the midst of political and religious upheaval. Rasa spends his days translating for Western journalists and pining for the nights when he can sneak his lover, Taymour, into his room. Then one morning Rasa’s grandmother, the woman who raised him, catches them in bed together!”
